CareScout Cost of Care Survey 2025, Median Cost Data Tables and Ranked Median Costs by State (published March 2, 2026). CareScout publishes the annual, monthly, daily and hourly medians; rank is Nebraska's position among states from most to least expensive. CareScout collects rates by metro area (Omaha is one of its Nebraska survey areas) but its tables publish statewide medians only, and it does not survey memory care separately.
Nebraska ranks 22nd among states for assisted living cost, but 42nd for a semi-private nursing home room, which is unusual: the gap between assisted living and nursing home prices is narrower here than in most states. Treat the median as a midpoint, not a quote. Omaha buildings in newer West Omaha and Elkhorn communities often price above it; smaller and older buildings and many outside Douglas County often price below it.
What does a nursing home cost in Nebraska?
CareScout's 2025 Nebraska medians are $100,521 a year ($8,377 a month, $275 a day) for a semi-private nursing home room and $110,595 a year ($9,216 a month, $303 a day) for a private room, both well below the U.S. medians of $114,975 and $129,575.
Medicare covers short skilled stays after a qualifying hospital admission, and Nebraska Medicaid covers long stays for residents who qualify financially and medically. Private-pay residents usually pay the daily rate plus charges for some supplies and services. Ask each home for its private daily rate in writing and what is billed separately.
What does home care cost in Omaha?
CareScout's 2025 Nebraska median for a non-medical home care worker is about $36 an hour, which works out to $82,368 a year or $6,864 a month at 44 hours a week; a private duty nurse runs about $62 an hour.
Most Omaha agencies set a minimum visit of two to four hours, and rates rise for nights, weekends and holidays. At Nebraska's median, part-time home care is cheaper than assisted living, but full-time care is not: once a family needs about 40 hours a week, the monthly cost passes the assisted living median. Why is adult day care so expensive in Nebraska?
CareScout's 2025 Nebraska median for adult day health care is $42,250 a year, about $3,521 a month or $162 a day for five days a week, ranking Nebraska 8th highest in the country and well above the U.S. median of $24,700.
Adult day health care in Nebraska's survey sample includes programs with nursing and therapy, which cost more than social day programs. The DHHS Adult Day Services roster of October 15, 2026 lists 8 licensed adult day services in the five counties, all but one in Douglas County. Ask each program for its daily rate, what is included, and whether it accepts the AD Waiver or ENOA's Caregiver Support Program, which pays for respite including adult day services for eligible caregivers.
Is there a published price for memory care in Omaha?
No. CareScout does not survey memory care as a separate category, and no public Omaha or Nebraska memory care median exists; communities quote their own rates, usually as a base rent plus a dementia care charge or an all-inclusive monthly rate.
Expect memory care to cost more than standard assisted living in the same building. The Alzheimer's Special Care Disclosure Act requires a memory care community to disclose its costs and any additional fees, so ask for that disclosure and compare it line by line. Ask too what happens to the price as care needs increase, and whether the community is certified for the Medicaid AD Waiver.
