What are adult day services in Nebraska?

Adult day services are DHHS-licensed daytime programs that provide supervision, activities, meals and supportive services, and in adult day health programs some health services, for adults with physical, emotional or cognitive impairments who live at home.

The DHHS Adult Day Services roster of October 15, 2026 lists 8 licensed adult day services in the five counties, all but one in Douglas County. One of them is the Immanuel Pathways PACE center on Sorensen Parkway, which serves PACE participants. Programs vary in hours, transportation and how they handle dementia.

Who are adult day services right for?

They suit a parent who lives with family or nearby, is safe at home at night, and benefits from structure, social contact and supervision during the day, especially when a family caregiver works or needs regular breaks.

Adult day can delay or prevent a move to assisted living for years. It is less suited to someone who cannot tolerate a group setting or the trip to the center.

What do adult day services cost, and who pays?

CareScout's 2025 Nebraska median for adult day health care is $162 a day, $42,250 a year for five days a week; the AD Waiver pays adult day health for eligible participants, ENOA's Caregiver Support Program can pay for adult day as respite, and PACE includes its center.

Medicare does not pay for adult day programs. Ask each program for its rate, minimum days and what is included.

How do adult day services work with PACE in Omaha?

For Immanuel Pathways PACE participants, time at the Sorensen Parkway center is part of the care plan: the center provides meals, activities, therapy and clinic visits, and PACE arranges transportation.

Families who are not in PACE use the other licensed programs on the roster, paying privately or through the AD Waiver or ENOA respite.

What should Omaha families ask an adult day program first?

Ask about hours, transportation and cost, whether a nurse is on site, how medications are handled, how the program serves participants with dementia, and whether it accepts the AD Waiver or ENOA respite.

Spend a morning there with your parent before enrolling, and ask how staff will tell you about changes they notice.
