CareScout Cost of Care Survey 2025, Median Cost Data Tables and Ranked Median Costs by State (published March 2, 2026). CareScout publishes the annual, monthly, daily and hourly medians; rank is Nebraska's position among states from most to least expensive. CareScout collects rates by metro area (Omaha is one of its Nebraska survey areas) but its tables publish statewide medians only, and it does not survey memory care separately.

Who pays for senior care in Nebraska?

Most Omaha families pay privately at first; Medicare covers only short skilled stays, home health and hospice; Nebraska Medicaid pays for nursing home care and, through the Aged and Disabled Waiver, for care at home and assisted living services (room and board excluded); PACE covers everything for enrolled members; and VA Aid and Attendance helps eligible veterans and survivors.

The fact that surprises families most is the room-and-board gap: the waiver pays for the care in an ALF but not the rent and meals, so a resident's own income must cover those.

Where can Omaha families get free help with benefits?

The Eastern Nebraska Office on Aging's Information and Assistance line at (402) 444-6444 serves Douglas, Sarpy, Cass and Washington counties, Aging Partners at (402) 441-7070 serves Saunders County, and Nebraska Medicaid applications go through iServe or (855) 632-7633.

AD Waiver applications use their own line, (877) 667-6266.
