What is Omaha Senior Advisor?

Omaha Senior Advisor is a free senior care referral and advisory service for families in Omaha and the Nebraska side of the metro: Douglas, Sarpy, Cass, Saunders and Washington counties.

We publish what Nebraska's regulators actually require, what the published cost data actually says, and every licensed facility on the state's own rosters; then a local advisor helps you narrow it down. Facilities pay us a referral fee when a family moves in, which is why the service is free to you. You should know that up front.

How many seniors and licensed care options are there around Omaha?

The five counties had about 139,442 residents 65 and older on July 1, 2025, according to Census Bureau estimates, and the Nebraska DHHS rosters list 79 licensed assisted-living facilities and 38 nursing homes there.

How does Nebraska license assisted living and memory care?

The Nebraska DHHS Licensure Unit licenses assisted living as assisted-living facilities (ALFs) under 175 NAC 4; memory care is shown on the state roster as an Alzheimer's unit, a memory care endorsement, or both.

A dementia unit must keep direct care staff awake and available at all times and hand families its admission and discharge criteria in writing. Read the full licensing explanation or Nebraska's memory care rules.

What does senior care cost in Nebraska?

CareScout's 2025 Nebraska medians are $6,350 a month for assisted living, $8,377 for a semi-private nursing home room and $36/hour for home care; CareScout publishes no Omaha-only figure and no memory care figure.

Nebraska Medicaid's Aged and Disabled Waiver can pay for assisted living services but not room and board, so the payment plan matters as much as the monthly price. See costs and paying for care.

Where should an Omaha family start?

Start from the situation, not the care type: a hospital discharge, a fall, a dementia diagnosis, an exhausted caregiver or money running out each point to different first steps, and our situation guides walk through each one.
